Gymnastics

Our gymnastics club was established in 2004. From then we have gone from strength to strength. We were one of the first clubs in Leeds to gain GymMark which is a British Gymnastics Kite Mark recognising our club as Safe, Effective and Child Friendly.

All our staff are professionally qualified, DBS checked, experienced and enthusiastic about young gymnasts progressing well and enjoying the experience.

We have recently had a new sports hall built that houses our gymnastics club. New equipment including bars, beams, vault, sprung floor and an air tumbling track gives our gymnasts an amazing opportunity to engage in gymnastics to a very high level.

Throughout the year we focus on different aspects each term:

>Autumn Term - September to December
Gymnasts will progress their skills throughout this term focusing on strength and flexibility, allowing gymnasts to learn new skills and improving old ones.

>Spring Term - January to March
Gymnasts will continue to progress their skills as well as work towards a Easter Display where parents are invited to watch and see how much their young gymnast has progressed. Hard work continues throughout this term in preparation for YMCA Gymnastics Awards.

>Summer Term - April to July
All gymnasts have the opportunity to undertake the YMCA Gymnastics Awards which shows progression from level 8 to level 1. The gymnasts then have the opportunity to gain Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards

Gymnique

Gymnique is for pre-school children. Preschool gymnastics teaches important skills like balance and co-ordination. With expert supervision and a playful environment, it’s a great way for them to have fun and lay the foundations of a healthy, active lifestyle. There are lots of exciting activities to get involved in. The sessions are always energetic and entertaining. While they are having fun with new friends, they’ll also be getting a head start in the world of physical exercise.

Pre Beginners

Pre-Beginner gymnastics caters for younger gymnasts and gives them the fundamental skills and progressions for learning more advanced skills in preparation for moving up to the Beginners class. They will work on all 4 pieces of equipment, floor, vault, beam and bars gaining balance, stability and strength, along with learning the basic skills such as forward rolls, walking along the beams and swinging on the bars.

Beginners

This class is where they start to learn the more difficult gymnastics skills. They build on the strength, stability and balance already gained from the Pre-Beginners class, and learn individual skills such as handstands, cartwheels as well as develop more difficult skills on the other apparatus. This class works on building the strength and a skill set ready for the move to the Intermediate class.

Intermediate (by invitation)

The Intermediate class is for gymnasts who already have a higher level of ability. This class again develops the stability, balance and strength further, as well as introducing flexibility work. They will start to learn more difficult moves on vault, beam and bars as well as starting to link moves together to form small routines, ready for the step up to the competition class.

Competition Class (by invitation)

You get to discover in depth four separate activities, each one requiring a routine full of elegant moves that show off your strength, skill and control. Competitions are arranged throughout the region and we have several Yorkshire Gymnastics Champions belonging to our club.

Please see our timetable for details of class times/days.

Tumbling

You're thundering down the runway,  launching into your fifth back flip in a row. For a moment it feels like the whole world is rotating around you. Then it's over.  And that's when the crowd goes crazy.

Tumbling is a truly breath-taking type of gymnastics. It's all about somersaults, flips and twists - and linking them together, one right after the other. If you've already got a bit of gymnastics experience, it's easy to get started with tumbling (not to mention a whole lot of fun).

If you love doing somersaults or cartwheels,  you'll find tumbling really easy to get into - whatever age you are. You'll start by learning how it feels to perform simple tricks on a sprung runway.  Then, as your technique and confidence grows, you'll learn to perform amazing sequences of flips and twists. If you get a kick out of competing,  there are contests for every age group from child to adult. Of course,  if you want to tumble just for fun, go for it!
